Tendon injury
Tendon injury overview
The function of a tendon is to connect muscles to bones. Tendon injury is a tear in the fibre of the tendon as a result of impact or other outside force. At the site of the tendon injury fluid seaps out to aid the healing process. However, this fluid also sticks to the undamaged fibres of the tendon causing stiffness. The pain associated with tendon injury is as a result of the undamaged tendon fibres being able to glide freely.
Tendon injury repair
Tendon injuries can be repaired by rest or surgery. This depends on the severity of the tendon injury. The healing process for a tendon injury is usually around six weeks. However, more serious tendon injuries can take several months to heal. Compression bandages or plaster casts may be used to ensure full support for the injured area to ensure a full recovery from tendon injury.
