Scarring overview
A scar is formed on the skin as part of the recovery process after the skin has been damaged. There are several factors which affect how the scar appears. These include the type and severity of injury and age of the person who has been scarred.
Types of scarring
There are several types of scar which occur as a result of injury to the skin. These include Keloid scars, which are scars that extend beyond the original injury. Over time, a keloid scar may affect mobility. Contracture scars which often occur as a result of a burn. This type of scar causes tightening of skin and may impair the ability to move.
