Post traumatic stress disorder occurs as a result of exposure to a traumatic event. During this event, the person affected will have felt that their life was threatened or has witnessed a traumatic event happening to another person. Post traumatic stress can last for many months or years after the event. Post traumatic stress manifests itself through flashbacks or nightmares, actively avoiding thoughts of the event or being unable to relax. There are also physical symptoms of post traumatic stress such as headaches and muscular aches.
