£1m accident claim compensation 'may not be enough'RSS Feed
The proposed payout for an accident claim may not be high enough, a high court judge has suggested.
Former factory worker Phil Parker, who suffered brain damage following a car crash in 2005, is due to receive £1 million in damages following a hearing in the High Court of London.
However, the judge delayed the settlement for the skilled factory worker because he has suggested it should be higher.
Mr Justice Jack said: "I don't think I should approve this settlement, I have an anxiety about how the future loss of earnings has been calculated.
"It should reflect his well established ability to earn in excess of £30,000 rather than being based on the lower pay he received for one month."
The decision comes after the transport secretary Sadiq Khan announced plans to improve road safety by requiring firms carrying out work to have clearer signs and adhere to stricter safety rules.
