Company fined £15k for accident at workRSS Feed
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has successfully brought a case against a manufacturing company after an accident at work led to a man suffering crush injuries to his arm.
David James was feeding metal sheeting through machinery at a workshop in Wareham when the incident occurred.
Aden Pro Farm was prosecuted and fined £15,000 after Bournemouth Crown Court heard how Mr James was instructed to manually feed the sheets through a press brake, despite the equipment being designed not to require this.
His arm was in a six-inch gap when the machine accidentally started and it became trapped as the aperture closed.
HSE Inspector David Bell stated: "Mr James has suffered significant pain and has had to leave the metal fabrication industry.
"Dangerous practices such as this must be stopped before other serious injuries, or a fatality, result."
The news comes after The Original London Sightseeing Tour Limited was prosecuted following an incident that saw an employee suffer a broken pelvis and several broken ribs when a bus crushed him.
