Fall from height leaves construction worker with broken bonesRSS Feed
A construction company in Harrow has been prosecuted following an accident at work that left an employee with several broken bones.
R & G Construction was found guilty of breaching safety regulations by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after an investigation into the incident involving Vasile Ionel Vatca.
The 28-year-old suffered a broken heel, leg and wrist when a ladder he was using to climb down from a roof at a refurbishment project fell away from the building, causing him to fall seven metres.
HSE inspector Andrew Verrall-Withers commented: "This was an appalling and entirely preventable incident which has severely affected a young man's life.
"Companies have a duty to take steps to reduce risks and prevent falls."
An investigation found R & G Construction failed to use guardrails, working platforms and other equipment that could have significantly reduced the chance of an accident.
In a separate incident, Chalcroft Limited was fined £14,000 after two employees were injured after they fell eight metres from a temporary structure.
