Accident at work death sees construction firm prosecutedRSS Feed
A construction company has been prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after an accident at work led to the death of an employee.
Craig Page suffered crush injuries to his upper body after the boom of a crane struck him when he was working on a building site in Hampstead.
The 26-year-old died at the scene and an investigation led to the HSE finding his employers Harris Calnan Construction responsible for breaching health and safety legislation.
HSE inspector Dominic Ellis said: "The defendant's failure to appropriately plan, manage and supervise lifting operations on site led to this incident."
The company was fined £80,000 and ordered to pay £66,244, while the firm's director Neil Harris was fined £7,500 and ordered to pay costs of £25,000.
Harris Calnan has been carrying out refurbishment work and new build projects in and around the west end of London for more than a decade.
