Accident at work results in fractured legRSS Feed
A boat building company in Hampshire has been fined after a worker suffered an accident at work that is likely to leave him with long-term damage.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) prosecuted Green Marine claiming it showed a dangerous lack of planning, organisation and control of work when moving premises.
This followed an incident which saw Stephen Thompson fall three metres to the floor when he was knocked off some steps when a piece of timber fell from a shelf.
Mr Thompson spent more than two weeks in hospital as his right leg was fractured in four places and now struggles to stand for long periods of time and walks with a limp.
HSE inspector David Bibby commented: "In their haste to get the factory closed down, Green Marine Limited failed to consider the risks apparent from this project and failed to ensure that work could and was being done safely."
Elsewhere, Benchmark Fabrication was recently fined after production assistant Denis Cronin suffered a fractured pelvis when he fell two metres onto a wooden pallet.
