Worker loses 3 fingers in manufacturing accident at workRSS Feed
A manufacturing company has been fined £7,000 following an accident at work that resulted in an employee losing three fingers on his right hand.
The incident at Sansetsu's Buckinghamshire factory led to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) prosecuting the firm for breaching regulations.
Daniel Winters was cleaning debris from an active bubble wrap making machine when his hand became caught on an in-running nip and was trapped between two powered rollers.
He suffered extensive injuries and the company was found to be at fault as there was no protection in place to prevent access to the hazardous sections of the machine.
"Running nips are a common hazard in many industries and all machines should be guarded to prevent human contact with the dangerous parts," HSE inspector Karl Howes commented.
Elsewhere, plastics firm DuBois in Corby was recently prosecuted after a worker severed his finger in machinery that makes cases for computer games.
