Accident at work 'left employee in constant pain'RSS Feed
A court has heard how an accident at work has left one former DS Smith Packaging employee in "constant pain" after his arm was crushed.
Daryl Bushnell was thrown over a semi-automatic rewinder machine he had been working on when his hand became stuck in the device, the Grimsby Telegraph reports.
His colleague failed to notice the incident, as he was wearing earplugs and facing away from the machine, which meant he activated the controls despite Mr Bushnell being trapped.
As a result of the accident, the victim is understood to have broken his arm and cracked three of his ribs.
DS Smith Packaging admitted responsibility for the incident, as the prosecution claimed there were no guards in place, the machine was faulty and sensory equipment could have been installed to improve safety.
The news comes after two Norfolk companies were fined by the Health and Safety Executive for failing to prevent a cleaner from sustaining crush injuries in a machine.
