Accident at work leads to fine at sign-making firmRSS Feed
A sign-making firm has been fined after an employee suffered an accident at work that left him with severe bruising.
The Edinburgh Evening News reports how Chris Heatlie was hospitalised overnight after falling 25ft through a skylight at Remnant Kings warehouse in Seafield.
An investigation found the 23-year-old had not been properly supervised when removing a sign from a store roof and Forrest Hepburn & McDonald Signs was ordered to pay £6,500 in costs.
It was claimed Mr Heatlie was saved from sustaining any broken bones as he hit a water tank and solid ledge before striking the shop floor.
The firm was found to be in breach of work at height regulations as a result of the accident in October 2009.
Elsewhere, Haz International in Hatfield was recently prosecuted after the Health and Safety Executive found the company to have put construction workers at risk during the refurbishment of its offices.
