Employee severs two fingers in accident at workRSS Feed
An accident claim could be on the cards after a worker's hand was injured when it became trapped in a gluing machine at an Essex packaging company.
Line supervisor Lynda Jackson was using cleaning paper to dry machine parts when it got caught between two glue rollers and her right hand was pulled into the machine.
The tips of two of her fingers were severed in the accident at work, which occurred at CBT Packaging Ltd's manufacturing plant in Paycocke Road in Basildon.
An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) revealed that while the company policy was not to clean the glueing machine while its rollers were rotating, it was standard practice to ignore this.
HSE Inspector Julie Rayner said: "Lynda Jackson was failed by the company's lack of proper training, inadequate assessment of risks, an absence of safe working practices and preventing access to dangerous equipment."
