Labourer left psychologically scarred after electric shock accident at workRSS Feed
A house building firm has been fined after an accident at work in which a worker suffered a severe electric shock that could have killed him.
The 42-year-old, from Bickershaw near Leigh, was working in the cellar of a house that Wain Homes, which employed him as a casual labourer, was refurbishing.
He had been told the cable did not have power running through it and subsequently cut into it and was thrown across the room and knocked unconscious by the 230 volt electric shock.
Trafford Magistrates' Court was told the worker has suffered severe psychological harm due to the incident.
Wain Homes, of Kelvin Close in Birchwood, Warrington, was fined £8,000 and ordered to pay £2,095 in prosecution costs.
Thomas Merry, Health and Safety Executive investigator, said: "This was a serious incident which has left one worker with psychological scarring, but it could easily have resulted in several people being badly injured or even killed."
