Manufacturer fined £180k after employee deathRSS Feed
A global manufacturer has been fined after an employee died in a tragic accident at work.
Christopher Massey was working on a night shift at a factory when he was struck on the head by a piece of machinery.
The 28-year-old had been looking through a gap in the machine to make sure tissue was being properly fed through the machine when it began to move.
A Health and Safety Executive investigation found that a dangerous part of the machine had been left unguarded.
Kimberly-Clark Ltd, of Tower View, West Malling, Kent, was fined £180,000 and ordered to pay £20,000 in prosecution costs.
Speaking after the hearing, HSE principal inspector Mark Dawson, said: "Significant modifications were made to this machinery which resulted in the creation of a dangerous trap point. Kimberly-Clark failed to notice this and, as a result, a young man in his prime was killed."
