Three contractors have been fined after a roofer fell from scaffolding in an accident at work.
Jeremy Bishop was re-roofing a domestic property when the accident at work occurred, and suffered severe injuries to his head, chest and back as a result.
He was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital and spent three weeks in intensive care before being transferred to a specialist spinal injury unit for eight months of intensive rehabilitation.
After a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation, Vincent Page, of V.Page Building Services Ltd, in Epping, was fined £20,000 and ordered to pay costs of £8,000.
Quality Roofs Ltd and its director Alan Tyler were fined £10,000 and paid costs of £4,000.
In addition, Philip Blakeman, trading as Access Specialists, of Ongar, was fined £3,000, with costs to pay of £2,000.
HSE inspector Adam Hills said: "Falls from height are one of the biggest killers in the workplace. Employers need to be aware of the risks it poses and ensure that their staff are properly protected."
