Worker damaged hand in accident at workRSS Feed
A worker lost his little finger and part of his right hand palm in an accident at work involving a metal press.
Barry Kelleher's right hand was crushed in the machinery at one of Crane Building Services and Utilities' factories.
The 47-year-old was using the press to mould metal parts used by the gas industry when the incident occurred. Mr Kelleher is unable to remember the accident.
He needed two skin grafting operations after the accident, and was off work for seven weeks as a result.
According to a Health and Safety Executive investigation, the machine could still be operated when a workers' hand was underneath the mould.
Barry Kelleher commented: "The loss of the small finger and the damage to the side of my hand stopped me doing several things. I continue to deal with the effects of what happened on a daily basis."
The company, of West Road in Ipswich, was fined £10,000 and ordered to pay costs of £4,560.
