Company prosecuted over fireball accident at workRSS Feed
An accident at work that led to two workers being engulfed in a fireball has led to the prosecution of both the company and its manager.
RVB Investments UK Ltd and Clifford Leigh pleaded guilty to breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, with the firm being fined £10,000 and the manager being ordered to pay £2,000 plus £1,000 in costs.
An explosion occurred after the employees were instructed to dig at an empty industrial unit, where an electrical drill hit a live 1,000 volt cable.
The workers experienced burns to their hands, arms and faces in the explosion, which produced such high temperatures that the electrical breaker's metal tool was vaporised in the blast.
Earlier this month, Amcol Minerals Europe Ltd was fined following an accident in which a factory worker suffered broken bones after his arm was dragged into an industrial conveyor belt at the company's plant in Winsford.
