Factory worker 'almost lost arm' in accident at workRSS Feed
A factory worker nearly lost his arm when he became caught in a machine in an accident at work, a court heard.
The Amcol Minerals Europe Ltd employee was left with a broken elbow, crush injuries to his left hand and bruising down the left-hand side of his body after the accident at work.
He had climbed up a ladder to a gantry in order to reach the conveyor belt and check the residue from a brown powder had been removed.
The 56-year-old's arm caught the underneath of the moving belt, and his arm was dragged into the rotating mechanism.
His injuries meant he was off work for several weeks.
Health and Safety Executive inspector Carl Jones said: "Amcol should have done more to make sure its employees weren't being put at risk. The company has since fitted interlocked guarding around the dangerous parts of the
conveyor belt, which automatically cuts the power if it's removed."
