Employee crushed by lorry in accident at workRSS Feed
A firm has been fined after an employee was crushed in an accident at work when a lorry reversed into him.
Driver Leslaw Chorazak was waiting to take his place as driver of the articulated 45ft heavy goods vehicle in the early hours on May 13th 2011.
He was guiding the returning driver as he reversed the lorry into the poorly lit yard at the KBC Logistics depot in Askews Farm Road, Essex. During this process, Mr Chorazak bent to pick up his torch, causing the driver to lose sight of him.
However, the driver continued to reverse, crushing Mr Chorazak between the back of the lorry and the office wall.
The 54-year-old suffered severe crush injuries to his right arm, body and collar bone, and spent several days in hospital.
Health and Safety Executive inspector Nicola Surrey commented: "Mr Chorazak was seriously injured in this incident and it was only good fortune that it did not end in a fatality."
