Pets 'at higher risk of traffic accident in winter'RSS Feed
Pets are more likely to be involved in a traffic accident during the winter months, experts have warned.
Insurance firm MORE TH>N revealed that there was a 59 per cent increase in traffic accidents involving cats and dogs in the winter months last year.
Five black spots for traffic accident claims involving pets are Ilford, Huddersfield, Carlisle, Halifax and Sutton.
The organisation is handing out free dog collar blinkers and reflective cat collars to new customers in an effort to curb this trend.
John Ellenger, head of pet insurance at the firm, said: "It's an unfortunate fact that during the dark winter days our dogs and cats are not as visible to motorists. However, a simple reflective pet collar or vest can help make all the difference."
Meanwhile, James Carnduff of insurance firm Admiral has warned motorists to be "as aware as they possibly can be" during the winter months, when traffic accident claims typically increase.
