Employer fined after man falls from roof in accident at workRSS Feed
A man has been fined after an accident at work in which one of his employees fell from a roof.
Daniel Elliot, 24, was constructing a new pitched roof between existing farm buildings when he fell 5.5 metres to the ground below, suffering serious injuries as a result.
Mr Elliot broke two bones in his spine, fractured his pelvis and suffered an injury to his arm which needed stitches.
He has not been able to return to work as a steel erector and is now pursuing an alternative career.
Employer Anthony William John Daniel, trading as Towy Valley Fabrications, failed to notify the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) of the incident at the time, but Mr Elliot's mother made the organisation aware of the accident at work.
A subsequent HSE investigation found that Mr Daniel had failed to properly plan and supervise work at height activities and to ensure that appropriate measures were in place to control the risks.
He was fined £6,500 and ordered to pay £2,651 in costs.
