British bobsleigh brakewoman suffers broken bones in crashRSS Feed
British bobsleigh brakewoman Serita Shone has undergone a four-hour spinal operation to address broken bones following an accident in a training session in Germany.
The 22-year-old was training at the Winterberg ice track ahead of the British Championships with driver Fiona Harrison, who suffered a head injury.
Following the accident, which occurred on the lower part of the track, Shone was airlifted to Marburg University Hospital.
Surgeons are pleased with the outcome of the operation on the former heptathlete, according to British Bobsleigh performance director Gary Anderson.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Mr Anderson said: "We've asked what the prognosis is and the doctors aren't prepared to give that prognosis until after the next operation but they are positive after today’s operation.
"She has feeling in her limbs but she's still quite heavily sedated."
Driver Harrison's injury is not thought to be serious, although she was kept under observation by doctors following the incident.
