Accident at work figures fallen, HSE reportsRSS Feed
There has been a fall in the number of injury and accident at work reports, according to figures from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Between April 2010 and March 2011, 24,726 major injuries were reported such as amputations, fractures and burns. This is at a rate of 99 injuries per 100,000 workers and is down from 26,268 injuries reported in 2009/10.
Furthermore, 90,653 other injuries were reported which were severe enough to keep people off work for four days or more, amounting to 363.1 injuries per 100,000 workers. It compares to 96,427 injuries the previous year.
In addition, approximately 1.2 million people maintained they were suffering from an illness which was caused or worsened by their work - down from 1.3 million reported in 2009/10.
However, the number of workers that were fatally injured has risen from last year, going from 147 to 171.
HSE chair Judith Hackitt commented: "HSE will continue to work with employers, employees and other organisations to maintain and, where necessary improve, health and safety standards. We all have a responsibility to make sure serious workplace risks are sensibly managed."
