Traffic accident risk 'increases in winter'RSS Feed
The risk of having a traffic accident increases as winter draws near, one expert has underlined.
Martin Paling of insurance firm Hastings Direct said that as days become shorter and darker, the chance of encountering ice and snow goes up.
Such conditions increase the risk of having a traffic accident, whether this is slipping off the road in icy conditions or a multiple vehicle collision.
He also said that it is "vital" that motorists get the cover they need, he said.
With many people needing their car or van for work purposes, for some having insurance is all the more important.
"It could mean the difference of keeping their livelihood, by keeping the insured [vehicle] on the road with the ability to perform daily work requirements," said Mr Paling.
Men could be particularly at risk of experiencing a traffic accident, according to new research from the Co-operative banking group, which found they are more likely to speed than women.
