Increasing cost of insurance to prompt more traffic accidents?RSS Feed
The increasing insurance costs for young drivers will have a negative effect on road safety, according to one expert - potentially causing more people to have a traffic accident.
A spokeswoman from the Institute of Advanced Motorists said that the rising cost of insurance is likely to tempt more drivers to take to the road uninsured.
She explained that the average cost of a claim made by young drivers stands at £4,500.
However, insuring a car can cost almost double this amount, with the cheapest quote for a 17-year-old male being over £7,000.
This will have an effect on road safety because young drivers are consequently unlikely to afford newer and safer vehicles. It also affects their chances of getting a job, especially in rural areas where a car is essential to get to work," she noted.
Meanwhile, research from the Co-operative banking group revealed that male motorists are more likely to speed than their female counterparts, potentially causing more accident claims on the road.
