Men 'more likely to speed'RSS Feed
Men could be more likely to cause a traffic accident, after new research revealed that males are much more likely to speed than their female counterparts.
Research conducted by the co-operative banking group revealed that men are more likely to take bigger risks on the road once they have passed their driving test.
Males also showed less regard for speed limits, with 54 per cent saying they do not believe that driving above 80 mph is speeding, compared to just 42 per cent of women.
In addition, 32 per cent of men admitted to frequently breaking speed limits, in comparison to just over 22 per cent of women.
Men were also more arrogant on the road, with almost double the number of men than women describing their driving as either "excellent" or "skilled".
Grant Mitchell, head of motor insurance at the Co-operative Insurance, commented: "When a lack of experience is couple with over-confidence, then accidents can and do happen."
