Manufacturing firm fined after forklift truck accident at workRSS Feed
A manufacturing firm has been fined after an accident at work in which a lorry delivery driver was run over by a fork lift truck.
Kelvin Davey had both his ankles and lower legs broken when the forklift truck reversed into him at Verplas Ltd in Dorset.
The 61-year-old has returned to work at the company, but it was originally thought his injuries could have ended his career.
Health and Safety (HSE) Inspector Ian Smart said: "The message is that if firms have limited space they still have to organise their operation so that they don't have conflicting activities going on in the same place. Pedestrians and fork lift trucks don't mix."
The company was fined £10,000 and ordered to pay costs of £2,407.
In a similar accident at work, a man fractured his leg after being hit by a reversing forklift truck.
Algis Jevsejevas was hit by the vehicle when working at CW Dobbs and Son.
