Worker fractures leg in accident at workRSS Feed
A farming company has been fined after a worker fractured his leg in an accident at work involving a forklift truck.
Algis Jevsejevas, 45, was walking across the floor of a potato grading shed to get labels for boxes when he was hit by the reversing forklift truck.
A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation found CW Dobbs and Son had failed to organise the shed in a way that was safe for pedestrians and vehicles.
HSE inspector Neil Ward said: "Since the incident, the farmer has put up a barrier but has also moved the labels to another part of the shed, next to the grading line, so people don't have to walk across the shed. This goes to show how simple and inexpensive preventative measures can be."
In another accident at work at a farming company, a worker lost two toes when he caught his foot in a screw auger inside a grain reception pit at R Todd & Company at Blacketyside Farm.
