Bald tyres 'could see accident claims denied'RSS Feed
Drivers should take proper care of their tyres, otherwise any accident claim could be denied.
Motorists with bald tyres may have their insurance claims denied and face fines of up to £10,000, just for failing to carry out the simple car maintenance.
A poll by Confused.com revealed a worrying lack of tyre knowledge among British drivers.
Some 57 per cent don't know that the correct tread depth for their tyres is 1.6mm, while 58 per cent are unaware of the correct pressure of their tyres.
Moreover, 18 to 24-year-olds were the least likely to know how to put air in their tyres, while 87.4 per cent do not change them for the winter weather.
Gareth Kloet, head of car insurance at the website, warned: "If someone is in a crash and their tyres are below the legal tread limit, a fine can be issued causing their insurance to be denied."
