Falling stone leaves worker with 'permanent personality changes'RSS Feed
A building company has been fined for an accident at work in which a falling stone hit a worker on the head, leaving him with serious injuries.
Paul Hinton was working at a domestic property when a 10kg stone fell nearly three metres, striking him on the head and causing a severe head injury.
The 56-year-old self-employed construction worker suffered permanent personality changes as a result of the incident.
According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Elegance Building Contractors Ltd failed to ensure brick guards were installed on the scaffolding.
HSE Inspector Mark Renouf commented: "Mr Hinton has suffered major injuries and the incident could very well have led to a fatality.
"Building companies must learn from this case and make sure basic safety precautions are observed on sites."
