Worker left injured after fall from scaffold towerRSS Feed
An Aberdeen electrical and refrigeration services company has been fined after an accident at work in which an employee fell 2.6 metres from a scaffolding tower.
Charles Howie was working on the tower in order to remove two ceiling mounted refrigeration units from the coldstore.
Four bolts from the unit had been removed, and Mr Howie continued to work on it until a forklift truck was to be put in place to support it.
However, at least one of the remaining bolts had fractured, causing it to fall and hit the scaffold tower, throwing the worker to the ground.
Health and Safety Executive inspector John Radcliffe commented: "A safe system of work might have included the use of a forklift truck as a support, but it needed to have been underneath the panel before any bolts were removed."
In other news, construction manager Haider Zaman who failed to implement safety measures to protect his workers has been fined £1,280 and ordered to pay costs of £1,500 after ignoring two safety orders.
