Accident at work leaves employee with severe burnsRSS Feed
A man was left with severe burns after an accident at work involving an electrical explosion.
The Pineview Interiors Ltd subcontractor was working on a construction site when a main electrical supply cable was cut during its removal, causing the blast.
A temporary electrical supply had been provided to the site, which the worker explained would need to be removed for the installation of a plaster board.
According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) intervention, Pineview workers took very limited enquiries to find out whether the cable was still live, proceding on the assumption that it must have been a redundant cable from a past installation.
When the worker climbed a ladder to remove the cable, he woke up on the floor with another employee putting out flames from the top half of his body.
He has undergone a skin graft to treat the burns which covered 30 to 35 per cent of his body.
