Construction firm fined for ignoring safety noticesRSS Feed
A construction manager who failed to put measures in place to protect his workers from an accident at work has been fined.
Mr Haider Zaman, whose actions could have led to a number of accident claims, was fined £1,280 and ordered to pay costs of £1,500 after failing to comply with two safety orders.
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspectors found unsatisfactory measures related to working at height, asbestos safety and structural stability.
Three Prohibition Notices ordered that Mr Zaman, 53, ceased work on the two residential properties his firm, Pride Builders, was refurbishing.
Futhermore, two Improvement Notices regarding asbestos safety training and health and safety competence training were then served to the construction site manager.
However, after a week, these measures had not been complied with.
HSE inspector David Kirkpatrick said: "Construction is a high risk industry and if workers are not to die or suffer life-changing injury, it is essential that everyone meets basic and sensible standards of safety."
