Parents 'pass down' dangerous drivingRSS Feed
Dangerous driving could be hereditary, according to new research, indicating that some families may be more likely to be involved in a traffic accident.
According to research from car insurance firm AXA, 18 to 30-year-olds are three times as likely to be banned from driving or have points on their licence if their parents do too.
It was also discovered that young drivers who see their parents drink driving are seven times as likely to do so themselves.
Furthermore, motorists who believe their parents are aggressive drivers are much more likely to behave aggressively themselves on the road.
These individuals were 50 per cent more likely to swear, flash or beep aggressively at other drivers than people whose parents were well behaved behind the wheel.
Robin Reames, chief claims officer at AXA, said: "I'm sure most parents would hate to think that the lessons they are teaching their children while they sit in the back of the car could end up in behaviour on the road that leads to a tragic road accident."
