Majority of motorists 'would take speed awareness course'RSS Feed
Motorists' speeding is a serious hazard on the road which leads to many a traffic accident and numerous accident claims.
Some 72 per cent of drivers have said that if caught speeding, they would take the National Speed Awareness course rather than acquire the penalty points on their license, according to research from moneysupermarket.com.
In this way they are able to avoid paying the £60 fine and three points on their licence, which could lead to an average 17 per cent to the cost of a car insurance premium.
Over half said they would take the course to prevent their insurance premiums rising, while 14 per cent said it would educate them on road safety.
Pete Harrison, car insurance expert at the comparison site, said: "By attending the course, motorists will avoid the three points on their license and the £60 fine providing it is either the first time they are caught, or that haven't taken the course within the last three years."
In other news, figures from the Association of Chief Police Officers revealed that the number of drivers found to be over the legal alcohol limit increased from last year, potentially increasing the number of accident claims made.
