Automotive worker loses finger in accident at workRSS Feed
An automotive firm has been fined after one of its workers lost part of their finger at an accident at work at Warwick factory.
Mr Ajit Kandola was cleaning the rotating drive wheel of a foam-slicing machine when the blade sliced off half of the index finger on his right hand.
The worker had to take five months off work and now finds everyday tasks, including writing, awkward and painful.
According to the Health and Safety Executive, Grupo Antolin Leamington should have ensured that workers could not touch the blade when it was rotating.
"The requirement to prevent access to dangerous parts of machinery is long-standing, as is the need to ensure that workers have proper instructions and information when operating machinery.
Meanwhile, a 20-year-old worker at a timber firm has lost part of his left thumb in an accident at work involving a circular saw.
Kestrel Timber Frame Ltd was fined £6,700 and ordered to pay costs of £4,117 for its health and safety breach.
