Worker injures leg in forklift truck accident at workRSS Feed
A construction supply company has been fined after an accident at work left an employee with serious injuries.
One forklift truck driver was moving a large metal coil inside the Livingston-based company's warehouse.
As the forks were in the raised position, the metal coil obstructed the drivers vision.
He was unaware that there were two other employees in the warehouse until he had driven two or three metres and became aware of a colleague shouting at him to reverse.
The driver had already hit one of the workers, knocking him to the ground and running over his right leg. Unaware of this, he reversed the truck over the man's leg again.
Major surgery was required, and the man was left with six pins and two steel plates in his shin as well as screws in his ankle and toes, leaving him with a permanent limp, scarring and pain.
In other news, a man died after being hit by a forklift truck at meat company Vion Foods Scotland Ltd, with the firm being fined £100,000 for a breach of health and safety.
