Failure to plan 'major cause of accident at work'RSS Feed
Many injuries due to an accident at work could be caused by the failure to plan properly, according to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
A spokesperson for the HSE said the not planning work properly or individuals having inappropriate access to equipment are some of the most common causes of falls in the workplace.
He advised that companies ensure practical arrangements such as the fast cleaning up of spillages are in place.
Moreover, cleaning methods should be controlled, according to the expert, such as ensuring the floor is dry after mopping.
"[It is] equally important that you consider your entrance design - if rainwater gets onto a smooth surface inside or outside a building, it may make it slippery. Good entrance design can help - such as canopies and effective mats," he added.
This follows comments from the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, which pointed out that one in three accidents at work are caused by a slip, trip or fall.
