HSE fines printing company after accident at work claimRSS Feed
A printing firm has been fined for failing to provide a safe working environment for its staff.
Ancient House Press, which is based in Ipswich, was found guilty of contravening the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations Act at Ipswich Magistrates' Court, after employee John Stagg experienced an accident at work.
Mr Stagg was attempting to clear a blockage underneath a conveyor belt on a stacking machine when his right hand got caught in its cogs leading to a fracture on his index finger and further injuries to his middle and ring fingers.
Ancient House Press was ordered to pay £7,500 after Mr Stagg had to undergo plastic surgery and was off work for seven months.
HSE inspector Paul Unwin said: "This was a serious and entirely preventable incident which left this employee with horrific injuries which he will never fully recover from."
Design company Derek Parnaby Cyclones International was also fined by the HSE after an employee suffered similar injuries.
