Brits risk accident claims by ignoring servicingRSS Feed
British motorists could be risking an accident claim by failing to carry out basic maintenance on their vehicles, new figures suggest.
As many as a fifth of drivers are in danger of causing a car or motorcycle accident because they believe servicing their car is a "complete waste of money".
With mounting bills for road tax, insurance and MOTs, motorists are putting maintenance in the "nice to do" list, according to Manheim Auctions, which carried out the research.
The study also revealed that over a third of motorists think their car maintenance skills are poor or very poor, relying on either the garage, their dad or partner for help.
It follows a survey from Kwik Fit that showed one in seven drivers puts off work needed on their cars.
The Manheim Auctions poll also found that 70 per cent of motorists think car maintenance should be incorporated into the driving test.
Craig Mailey, marketing director at the firm, explains that it is essential to keep maintaining a vehicle by checking tyre pressures, lights and oil and water levels.
"Not only will it help to keep you safe on the road, it will also ensure you get the best resale price possible for your car when you come to sell it," he added.
