Nottingham firm fined after accident at workRSS Feed
A Nottingham cleaning products manufacturer has been fined after an employee was seriously injured in an accident at work.
The employee, who does not wish to be named, suffered a broken bone in the cheek, multiple skull injuries and had his vision impaired following the incident in 2009.
Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard that the accident happened when he was helping to load a lorry with a stacker truck, which toppled on him when it hit a kerb.
Following an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), his employer Revelholme Marketing Ltd (trading as Unic International), was prosecuted and fined £5,000.
HSE inspector Stuart Pilkington said: "Companies need to ensure that the work equipment they use, such as stacker trucks, is suitable for the task, and for the conditions in which it is used."
Manufacturing accounts for about nine per cent of the British workforce, but for 16 per cent of reported injuries to employees, according to HSE figures.
