Is your 'everyday autopilot' putting your child at risk of an accident claim?

Many Brits could be putting themselves at risk of being involved in a traffic accident or accident at work because they run on autopilot.

Eight in ten Brits rely on autopilot to get through the day, which may be leaving children at particular risk, according to research by the Child Accident Prevention Trust.

Data shows that around 45 children are rushed to hospital because of burns from hot drinks, while many more are put at risk of a broken bone or even brain damage because they are not strapped into their high chair.

The trust's research indicates that only four in ten parents automatically move hot drinks out of reach of small children, while only a fifth strap their child automatically into their high chair.

Child Accident Prevention Trust chief executive Katrina Phillips explained: "We all revert to autopilot just to get through the day - there's simply too much to remember.

"The trick is to make safety part of your everyday routine and develop safety habits before your child puts you to the test."
