Drink drive accident claims risk highlighted by crackdownRSS Feed
The risk of drink drive accident claims has been highlighted by the results of a new campaign in Scotland.
Over 100 people have been caught driving while under the influence in the first week of the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (Acpos) summer campaign.
Police say they are disappointed by the results, which also show 16 motorists were risking a traffic accident by being unfit to drive through drugs.
The figures included a 17-year-old boy who was caught drink driving on the same day he passed his test.
Assistant Chief Constable Tom Ewing, of Fife Police and Acpos, said: "I am disappointed by these figures, which show an increase in the number of offenders caught.
"We will continue to patrol the roads day and night, and if you get behind the wheel when you shouldn't, we will catch you."
It comes after plans were announced by the UK government to toughen up on drink and drug driving in a bid to reduce accident claims.
