UK 'in slow lane' in adopting eSafety technologies to cut accident claimsRSS Feed
The UK could be risking more accident claims than other European countries because it is falling behind with electronic safety - eSafety - devices for vehicles.
Fleet and private new car buyers are in the "slow lane" when it comes to the adoption of these safety measures, according to RoadSafe.
eSafety technologies are those that can assist drivers in an emergency situation and can provide vital information and warnings to help avoid traffic accident situations occurring.
One example of these is ESC. The Department for Transport has concluded that ESC-equipped vehicles are 25 per cent less likely to be involved in fatal crashes than those without.
Adrian Walsh, director of RoadSafe, said: "The study shows that familiarity with these life-saving technologies is on the rise with awareness levels ten per cent greater in 2011 than two years ago."
However, he warned that Europe's car buyers are still not purchasing eSafety systems in enough numbers.
"Thousands more lives could be saved and injuries avoided if these systems were more widely used," he added.
