Businesses called to shape accident at work lawsRSS Feed
Laws designed to minimise the accident at work rate are to be shaped by businesses which are being asked to submit their opinions to a review of health and safety legislation.
Companies are being invited by the Department of Work and Pensions to give their views on workplace safety to the Loftstedt Review into health and safety rules.
The review will look at combining, simplifying or reducing approximately 200 statutory instruments owned by the Health and Safety Executive.
It will also consider situations where the laws have impacted on positive health and safety outcomes and businesses, or have led to "unreasonable" outcomes, or "inappropriate" accident claims.
Employment minister Chris Grayling commented: "Getting the regulation of health and safety right is important to everyone.
"The Health and Safety at Work etc Act remains an effective framework. However we need to put common sense back into health and safety and ease the burdens on business."
It follows the announcement earlier this year that the government wants to reduce safety visits at factories, shops and offices by a third.
