Derby roundabout 'could cause traffic accident'RSS Feed
A new roundabout layout in Derby could confuse motorists, leading to a traffic accident or worse, local residents fear.
The Derby Telegraph reports that the redesigned Raynesway junction may cause drivers to mistake the green light at a pedestrian crossing for the signal to pull out on the roundabout.
Bill Woodrow, a 65-year-old local man who uses a mobility scooter, said some cars are also jumping the red light because they are concentrating on what is coming around the roundabout, potentially leading to a traffic accident.
"At the very least, I want them to reposition the pole a few yards so I can see the oncoming traffic when I cross," he told the newspaper.
"It is evident that planners concentrate on vehicle flow and not how it will affect pedestrians," added Alvaston Neighbourhood Board member Kevin Winson.
The news comes soon after six people were injured in a multiple-vehicle traffic accident on the M6 northbound carriageway near Sandbach.
