Roofing firm fined for risking accident at workRSS Feed
A roofing company in Lincoln has been fined after two of its employees were spotted working without any safety equipment, which could have led to an accident at work.
Graham Nicholson Roofing was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £1,500 in costs after CCTV captured two men on the roof of Cooperative Travel at the Lakeside Centre in Balderton, Nottinghamshire.
Although no accident at work occurred this time, the men had no edge protection in place or harnesses to guard against falls, risking both themselves and the safety of people below them.
"This was a blatant disregard for health and safety which put both workers and members of the public in danger," said Health and Safety Executive inspector Stephen Farthing.
"Roofing work requires careful planning and assessment of the risks involved."
The news comes shortly after chimney repair company Fluetech was fined when a worker from Halifax suffered broken bones after falling seven metres from the roof of a house in Leeds.
