Driving safely to avoid traffic accident 'a moral duty'RSS Feed
Every motorist needs to take responsibility for driving safely and avoiding a traffic or motorcycle accident, the charity RoadSafe has advised.
It comes as research by Brake and Direct Line reveals that more than two-thirds of drivers worry about being killed in a traffic accident, but only one per cent admits to being less safe than the average motorist.
Adrian Walsh, director of RoadSafe, said it is "both a legal and moral requirement" for people to evaluate their own behaviour on the roads and make sure they are driving safely.
He explained that motorists need to be aware of "all aspects of traffic law but the guiding principle is to share the road."
Older people are among the safest drivers, Mr Walsh went on to say, adding that staying accident free also helps people keep their insurance premiums down.
Meanwhile, RoadSafe is launching its new Get a Grip campaign aimed at local authorities, which it hopes will cut the number of motorcycle accidents by improving road surfaces.
