Continual improvement 'vital' to cut traffic accident ratesRSS Feed
The traffic accident rate could be reduced if people tried to make themselves better drivers, it has been claimed.
Motorists should not assume that passing the driving test is the end of the road in terms of personal development, according to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).
"They should be doing something to help themselves improve further," said Peter Rodger, chief driving examiner at the motoring organisation.
He went on to argue that the government needs to do more to increase involvement in ways that reduce accident claims.
"The government needs to actively and proactively encourage individuals to drive better, to cycle better and generally behave in ways conducive to how we all drive and cycle," Mr Rodger explained.
Charities and other organisations promoting road safety also need to be given more support and encouragement from the authorities, he added.
It comes as the IAM launches an initiative to make drivers more aware of the risks of being too reliant on satnavs.
