£100m to cut pothole accident claimsRSS Feed
Accident claims from drivers hitting potholes in roads are to be cut with a £100 million allocation from Westminster for councils to repair broken roads.
Roads up and down the country have been left patchy and in disrepair after the prolonged period of severe cold weather, leaving many local authorities facing the threat of an accident claim from motorists.
Announcing the extra cash, transport secretary Philip Hammond explained that millions of drivers are affected every day by the poor state of roads in England.
"This money should make a real difference to the millions of drivers who are fed up with having to continually battle against dangerous potholes, giving them safer and smoother journeys," he said.
Money will be allocated based on the length and condition of roads for which councils are responsible rather than making authorities apply for funding.
Kwik Fit recently warned that of potholes causing a rise in the traffic accident rate, with four in ten motorists taking dangerous evasive action to avoid them.
